OSTIA ANTICA WALKING TOUR
A wonderful walk through the Roman ruins in this old town. It can be defined a little Pompeii, just few kilometers away from Rome. Ostia was one of the first villages conquered by Rome. It became immediately a river port acquiring a commercial function to supply Rome with food, particularly wheat, even if its defending military function as naval base certainly prevailed.
The first traces of settlement on this site can be dating back to 4th century, after the defeat of Veio, a very powerful Etruscan city.
