Giuseppe Fiorelli (Naples, June 8, 1823 - Naples, January 28, 1896) Italian archaeologist. He was director of the excavations of Pompeii after the unification of Italy. He conducted excavations in a systematic and scientific rigor, reorganized the archaeological area in regiones (quarters) and insulae (blocks). It is due to his intuition the possibility of obtaining plaster casts of the victims of the eruption. He worked on the collections of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, where it is still exposed his plastic model of the city of Pompeii. He founded the School of Archaeology of Pompeii, and in 1875 published his "Description of Pompeii", the first scientific guidance of the city.
